AWARE: Alliance of White Anti-Racists Everywhere

This LibGuide is intended to provide resources for participants in AWARE and WSCR groups at RPCS or for those who may want to start anti-racism groups at other schools.

AWARE stands for Alliance of White Anti-Racists Everywhere. It is an organization that exists nationwide and was started in LA. An informal group was formed in the spring 2019 here at RPCS, and has continued formally as AWARE. It is our belief that in order to challenge racism and dismantle white supremacy, white people need to unlearn racism and discover the ways we enact white privilege. Our meetings are a space for white people to figure out what it means to be anti-racist and learn to challenge racism in all areas of our lives so that the onus is not constantly on POC to educate us.

WSCR stands for White Students Confronting Racism. WSCR participants believe it is the responsibility of white students, rather than BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) students to educate ourselves and others about individual, systematic, and institutionalized racism. WSCR's purpose is to organize educational and community-based initiatives that combat racism locally and on a broader scale. In addition to engaging in important discussions during club time, we will strive to work alongside other affinity groups like BSU and ASA to create schoolwide conversation.
